Atlanta, Georgia, USA - December 21, 2010:
Wipro Technologies, the Global Consulting, System Integration and Outsourcing business of Wipro Limited (NYSE: WIT), today announces that it has been honored by the U.S. Department of Defense with the ‘Patriot’ Award for support of its employees who serve in the Georgia National Guard and Reserve.
At a ceremony in Atlanta, Georgia Captai1n Michael Thompson, Manager at Wipro Consulting Services, Vasudev Murthy, General Manager and Global Operations Head and Chris Rooney, General Manager and Head of Wipro Consulting Services, US, accepted the award on behalf of Wipro Technologies.
The “Patriot Award” is the first of the sequential and progressive employer awards program. It is intended specifically for the recognition of individual supervisors or the employer organization as a whole. Patriot Award nominations may come only from Reserve component (RC) members or their spouses/immediate family members. Nominated employers receive a Patriot Award certificate and accompanying lapel pin.
Captain Michael Thompson, Manager at Wipro Consulting, nominated Wipro Technologies for making changes to its Reservist Policy that included additional time paid for above and beyond what is required by law when a person is called to Active Duty or even for their normal 2 weeks of required reserve obligation during the year. The new policy also allows further time for when a person reenters the active workforce once returning from call of duty activation.
"We're honored by this award," said Kirk Strawser, Managing Partner of Wipro Consulting Services. "But the real honor goes to Captain Michael Thompson for his service to our nation. It's a privilege for us to support him and his colleagues as they defend our freedom."
As the 1.3 million members of the National Guard and Reserve continue to perform an increasing number of unique missions with America’s borders and beyond, Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) will continue to be the resource for the employers of citizen warriors. ESGR provides education, consultation, and if necessary mediation for employers of Guard and Reserve employees. More information about ESGR Employer Outreach Programs and volunteer opportunities is available at www.esgr.mil, or by calling 678-569-5738.
