February 04, 2014 : Outpacing but not outspending its competition, Brivo Labs worked with Topcoder to create four applications in six months
San Francisco – February 4, 2014 – Appirio today announced that Brivo Labs, an Internet of Things company leading the way in the emerging social access management market, is utilizing Topcoder's 600,000+ member development and design crowdsourcing community to accelerate the creation of innovative applications–allowing people to interact with the physical world using their social identity.
The Internet of Things industry is growing at a rapid pace, however many companies in the emerging space have not actually had products go to market yet. Working with the Topcoder community, Brivo Labs is outpacing its competition by way of crowdsourcing, spending a fraction of the cost of hiring developers internally. In six months, the crowdsourcing model has enabled the company to successfully launch four products, using five different skill areas–mobile/device integration, Web APIs, JavaScript, Salesforce and single sign on (SSO)–that connect virtual communities with physical spaces and devices.
"The strategic innovation of the Topcoder community enabled us to go hard and go fast out-of-the-gate, executing our vision to simplify and enhance everyday experiences on a modest budget. The quality of work was top notch and everything that was promised was delivered, if not exceeded," said Lee Odess, general manager of Brivo Labs. "As we look to expand our business, the crowdsourcing model will allow us to scale quickly and produce more applications that ultimately improve our customers' quality of life."
Prior to its work with Topcoder, Brivo Labs explored several traditional development models like outsourcing and hiring in-house developers. The decision to work with Topcoder was a simple one–the crowd not only made it possible for Brivo Labs to create products like a OKDoor, a Google Glass integration application, quickly and efficiently, but do so with a 40 percent cost savings compared to alternative options.
"Through its innovative applications, Brivo Labs is changing the way people interact with the world around them, and the company has only just begun to make its mark in the Internet of Things arena," said Narinder Singh, president of Topcoder and co-founder of Appirio. "The Topcoder community has proven to be a successful way for Brivo Labs to set itself apart from the competition and we're proud that it is part of the company's growth strategy."
In January Brivo Labs received the Appirio Cloud Pioneer Award –an award that recognizes and highlights the top thought leaders and influencers among Appirio's customers. Later this month, Appirio will be co-presenting with Brivo Labs at the Open Innovation Summit in Baltimore, MD, on the topic of crowdsourcing to accelerate digital innovation.
