With the fourth industrial revolution underway,  it is imperative to leverage the technologies that drive industry 4.0. However, there are several challenges in execution. It is important to pull the right I4.0 levers to drive enterprise transformation at full throttle.

There are four basic tenets of I4.0 that govern its adoption:

• Interoperability - The ability to connect and communicate across each other, be it machines, devices, sensors or people, through technologies under the realm of Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Services (IoS)
• Information transparency - The ability of information systems to create a virtual copy of the physical world by enriching digital plant models with sensor data
  
• Federated decision enablement - Empowerment at the edge through cyber physical systems enables autonomous decision making at the place of occurrence
  
• Augmented assistance - Ability to support operators by aggregating and visualizing information comprehensively and solving in-situ, through cognitive technologies (e.g. AR/VR, ML)
