We are proud to announce our recent decision to join the Business Coalition for the US Equality Act, a pivotal step in our LGBTQ+ journey towards fostering an inclusive and equitable workplace. This coalition, formed in March 2016 by the Human Rights Campaign, comprises 552 leading U.S. employers, including many Wipro clients and partners, united in their support for the Equality Act—legislation before the United States Congress that aims to provide explicit, permanent protections for the rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals under existing US civil rights laws. While many corporations, including Wipro, have created equality in their policies and benefits across their workforces, the same cannot be said of federal civil-rights laws in the United States.

The Impact of the Equality Act in the US:
This landmark legislation seeks to bridge gaps in existing civil rights laws, ensuring that LGBTQ+ individuals are afforded the same legal protections as their counterparts. With 552 member companies collectively generating $7.8 trillion in revenue and employing over 16 million people across the nation, the Business Coalition for the Equality Act amplifies the corporate voice in support of this legislation.
The Equality Act creates clear, consistent protections to prohibit discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity in employment ensuring that LGBTQ employees are hired, fired, and promoted based on their performance. In addition, the bill provides protections from discrimination for LGBTQ people in housing, credit, and jury service. The bill would also prohibit discrimination in public spaces and services, and federal funding on the basis of sex, sexual orientation, and gender identity.
