Client
A utility company serving millions of customers with gas and electricity.
Business objectives
The client operates in a highly regulated environment where ensuring worker safety through skills and competency management are critical operational priorities. They were manually managing these competency requirements.
The Canadian Gas Association (CGA) introduced new regulatory guidelines that included managing ‘observed competency’. This was in addition to the existing requirement to manage worker skills and competency.
- The enhanced regulation mandates that worker capability be observed and deemed competent by a Supervisor.
- This ‘observed competency’ requires our client to revisit the legacy system and refine the applications that supports these business processes.
How Wipro delivered Client Success
Wipro leveraged its consulting capabilities in Skill and Competency Management, and its deep understanding of the client’s IT ecosystem to select a suitable solution, with all the features needed to comply with CGA’s regulations. The overall approach followed is summarized below.
- Wipro consultants conducted workshops to gather new business requirements. They worked closely with the client’s business stakeholders, to understand the ‘as-is’ business process and developed the ‘to-be’ (business process), in line with the new regulations by CGA around observed competency.
- Based on our deep understanding of the client’s IT landscape, we defined non-functional requirements.
- We leveraged our consulting practice expertise to advise the business on critical capabilities needed for effective management of skill and competency.
- We used the SAFE framework to evaluate vendor responses and conducted a detailed analysis to rank all vendor responses and demonstrations. As part of the final report, we provided recommendations and a rollout approach. The diagram below illustrates our vendor evaluation approach.
