As the world embraces connected cars and software-defined vehicles, demand for advanced in-vehicle infotainment (IVI) systems is projected to grow at a double-digit compound annual growth rate through 2027. The Bosch Group, a leading global supplier of connected mobility automotive solutions, looked to capitalize on this demand by creating a reusable Android Automotive infotainment development platform that would scale to serve multiple OEM programs and enable it to leverage Android’s deep customization capabilities.
This approach would help Bosch scale its capabilities in new technologies quickly and with less investment. It would also empower their Tier-1 manufacturing customers to differentiate themselves through advanced infotainment systems. By deploying a cockpit domain controller platform that incorporated the latest technologies and features, OEMs can provide attractive and differentiating interior experiences.
Solution
Mindful of the need to integrate various functions across the in-vehicle (IVI) experience, Wipro implemented a software-integration strategy that developed middleware components for communication between apps from various software vendors. This software component is a first-of-its-kind and enables digital ecosystem partners to collaborate and bring in their best-in-class features. The integrated platform also has the unique ability to develop a feature-rich human-machine interface (HMI) for complex applications such as Rightware’s Kanzi HMI framework and TomTom’s Navigation kit.
By enabling a connected cockpit, Bosch’s infotainment platform empowers automotive manufacturers to dramatically improve the driver experience and create new points of differentiation. Its user-assisted features enable functions like smart weather and navigation, while continuous learning further enables profile personalization over time.
These features – developed using a fully scalable and customizable platform – enable Bosch to stand out in the highly competitive software market and help its customers deploy differentiated in-vehicle infotainment systems. To share this vision and platform, Wipro provided additional support by helping the mobility solutions giant demonstrate its reference platform during multiple events and roadshows for automotive OEMs around the globe.
Business Impact
The rich feature content integrated with Wipro’s support demonstrated next-generation platform-development capabilities. This innovation helped highlight Bosch’s leadership position in various industry reports about the digital cockpit sector.
