Client Background
Challenge
As the leading telecommunications operator in Bangladesh, Grameenphone was critical to meeting the country’s exploding demand for high-speed internet and digital services. To meet these needs and accommodate its growing customer base, the company sought to transform its technology systems, modernize its processes, and digitize its operations.
Grameenphone envisioned a cloud-based ERP and supply-chain solution that would drive business agility and growth with connected processes, simplify IT, and reduce operating costs. The company hoped that building such a future-proof infrastructure would allow it to mitigate the impacts of the looming data-usage increase, streamline complex processes, automate manual tasks, and create a dashboard that empowered employees to capture actionable insights.
Solution
To help streamline complex business processes, Wipro helped Grameenphone adopt an Oracle Fusion Cloud-based solution that would facilitate cloud transformation. The objective was to leverage the cloud’s standard functionality to enhance end-to-end visibility across finance, purchasing, self-service procurement, product hub, order management, inventory management, and manufacturing. Cloud’s scalability would also allow the company to scale their operations up or down based on demand, ensuring seamless customer service.
The solution involved accurate data migration from on-premise systems to cloud, and integrations with several other local and global on-premise systems. It also leveraged automation for faster approvals, while custom reports promoted analytical decision-making capabilities. Additionally, Wipro implemented scalable solutions for order pricing and tax calculations (TDS and VDS) that further reduced manual effort and risk of errors.
Business Impact
Grameenphone’s partnership with Wipro enabled the Bangladeshi company to streamline key enterprise processes, leverage advanced technologies, and establish a standardized solution to drive operational efficiency and agility.
With one complete cloud solution for financials, supply chain, and procurement, Grameenphone experienced a reduction in on-premises hardware costs, with existing custom processes replaced by SaaS enhancements and cloud standard. The solution also enhanced security features such as IP whitelisting, and adding authentication to APIs.
The core solution was both robust and scalable, accelerating Grameenphone’s efforts to digitize the country. With its new approach, the Bangladeshi telecommunications leader enabled more than 15,000 of its towers with 4G services while preparing to manage a nearly 100% increase in mobile data usage between 2020 and 2025.
